Shopify B2B is no longer Plus-only
For a long time, Shopify's native B2B tools (companies, B2B catalogs and payment terms) were part of Shopify Plus. Merchants on other plans used wholesale apps, separate wholesale stores or manual draft orders instead. That has changed. Shopify's B2B plan features page now lists B2B features on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, with some limits on the plans below Plus.
So the question is no longer whether you can do B2B without Plus, but which approach fits your business: Shopify's built-in B2B on your current plan, an app that works with regular customer accounts, or both. This page compares them as fairly as we can. We make one of the apps, so please check Shopify's own pages for the latest details on built-in features.
Shopify's features and plan limits change over time. The details below are based on Shopify's Help Center as of October 2026. Always check the linked pages before you decide.
What Shopify's built-in B2B includes on each plan
Shopify's B2B is built around companies. A company has one or more locations, and each location has buyers (customers who can order for it), payment terms, addresses, catalogs and tax settings. B2B customers sign in with customer accounts to see their wholesale information, according to Shopify's B2B features overview.
| Built-in B2B feature | Basic, Grow, Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Companies, company locations, location permissions | Yes | Yes |
| B2B catalogs (price lists and product publishing) | Up to 3 active catalogs across B2B markets | Unlimited |
| Catalogs assigned directly to a company or location | No | Yes |
| Quantity rules (minimum, maximum, increment) and quantity price breaks | Yes | Yes |
| Net terms and payment reminders | Yes | Yes |
| Vaulted credit cards; ACH (United States only) | Yes | Yes |
| Deposits, partial payments, payment requests per fulfillment | No | Yes |
| Draft order to invoice, checkout to draft, PO numbers, easy reorders | Yes | Yes |
| Quick order list, Trade theme, Shopify Flow with B2B objects | Yes | Yes |
| Contextual checkout and storefront | Advanced only | Yes |
Shopify also notes that B2B catalogs on Basic, Grow and Advanced need your store to use the new version of Shopify Markets. For payment terms, see Setting up payment terms in B2B, and for price breaks, see quantity rules and volume pricing in B2B.
To let new businesses apply, Shopify supports company account requests through the Shopify Forms app. A submitted form creates a company, a location and a customer, and by default the company can't access B2B pricing until you approve it.
The app approach: B2B with regular customer accounts
Nexora B2B Wholesale Pricing takes a different approach. Instead of companies, it uses the customer accounts and tags you already have. A rule targets customers By customer tags (for example wholesale), Logged in only, Specific customers or All customers, and the app applies the price on the storefront and, through an automatic discount called Nexora Wholesale Discount, at checkout. The app is free, with every feature included, and works on any Shopify plan.
Because pricing comes from rules rather than catalogs, the 3-catalog limit on Basic, Grow and Advanced doesn't affect the app's price rules. You can run a separate rule for each customer group, each with its own products, discount and optional Markets and Active dates.
Side-by-side comparison
| Topic | Shopify built-in B2B (non-Plus plans) | Nexora B2B Wholesale Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Included in your Shopify plan | Free app, every feature included |
| Buyer model | Companies, locations and buyer contacts | Regular customer accounts with tags |
| Price groups | Up to 3 active B2B catalogs; direct company catalogs need Plus | Wholesale and volume rules by tag, customer or market |
| Volume pricing | Quantity price breaks in catalogs | Tiers by Quantity or Cart amount, with 7 volume table designs |
| Quantity rules | Minimum, maximum and increment | MOQ with minimum, maximum and step, plus messages and badges |
| Order value or weight minimums | Not listed on Shopify's B2B plan-features page | MOV (with per-currency minimums) and MOW limits |
| Sign-up and approval | Company account requests through Shopify Forms | Registration form builder with file upload, Tax ID field, tag per option and manual or automatic approval |
| Hiding prices and catalog | B2B prices show to signed-in B2B buyers; the store password page locks the whole store | Catalog locks (hide price, product or collection) and a Storefront lock with paths, passcodes and secret links |
| Payment terms | Net terms, reminders, vaulted cards, ACH (US); deposits and partial payments on Plus | Net days, due on receipt, due on fulfillment or fixed date, through a manual payment method, with PDF invoices and reminders |
| Ordering tools | Quick order list, easy reorders, draft order to invoice, PO numbers | Quick order form with SKU,qty paste, Variant Drawer, Request a Quote, wholesale pricing on draft orders |
| Tax | Tax settings and exemptions per company location | Prices with or without VAT per customer group; EU VAT ID check with VIES and reverse charge |
| Shipping | Per-location shipping addresses | Rules that hide, show only or reveal free rates by customer tag |
| Automation and staff | Shopify Flow with B2B objects; sales staff permissions | Not included |
The app's payment terms and shipping-rate rules target customers, not Shopify Markets. Its EU VAT validation uses VIES and doesn't check UK VAT numbers.
When each option fits
Shopify's built-in B2B is a good fit when
- Your buyers are companies with several locations, buyers and shipping addresses.
- Three active catalogs are enough for your price groups, or you are on Plus.
- You want vaulted credit cards, ACH payments in the US, easy reorders or Shopify Flow automations with B2B data.
- You plan to move to Plus later and want deposits, partial payments or catalogs for individual companies.
A tag-based app is a good fit when
- Your wholesale buyers are already regular customers, and tagging them is simpler than creating companies.
- You need more price groups than three catalogs allow, or prices per customer on a non-Plus plan.
- You want to hide prices or a private collection from guests, without locking the whole store.
- You need order-value or order-weight minimums, quote requests, a registration form with document upload, or VAT tools such as VIES checks.
- You are on an older version of Shopify Markets and can't use B2B catalogs yet.
Using both
Some stores use built-in B2B for a few large company accounts and an app for smaller tagged buyers. If you combine them, test the checkout with a company buyer and a tagged customer before going live, and decide which tool sets the price for each group so two discounts don't compete.
Getting started with the app on any plan
- Install and turn on the embed
Install the app, then on Home use Storefront status to switch on the Wholesale B2B app embed and save the theme.
- Tag your wholesale buyers
Add a tag such as
wholesaleto your existing wholesale customers in Shopify, or set up a registration form that adds it on approval. - Create a price rule
Go to Pricing → Wholesale pricing → Create new, choose By customer tags with
wholesale, pick the products and set the discount. Activate and save. - Add what you need next
Add volume tiers, order limits, catalog locks or payment terms as your program grows. The tutorial walks through the most common ones.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Shopify Plus for B2B on Shopify?
No. Shopify's Help Center lists built-in B2B features on Basic, Grow and Advanced, with limits such as 3 active B2B catalogs. Some features, such as deposits and company-specific catalogs, stay on Plus.
What is Plus-only in Shopify B2B?
According to Shopify's plan-features page: unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned directly to a company or location, deposit requirements, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment. Contextual checkout and storefront need Advanced or Plus.
Does the Nexora app need Shopify's B2B companies?
No. It works with regular customer accounts and targets buyers by tag, by login status or individually.
Can I hide wholesale prices from guests without Plus?
Yes. With the app, a catalog lock with Hide price replaces prices with a sign-in button for anyone who doesn't qualify. Shopify's built-in password page locks the whole store instead.
Is the app free?
Yes. Nexora B2B Wholesale Pricing is completely free, with every feature included.
