How to show different product badges by country on Shopify

Quick answer

To show different badges by country on Shopify, open a label's Display condition tab and use Show On Locations. Choose Include to show the label only to visitors from the countries you select, or Exclude to hide it from them. The country comes from the visitor's IP address, not from Shopify Markets, so it works even if your store has a single market.

Why badges differ by country

The same message isn't true everywhere. Free shipping may only apply at home, a holiday sale may run in one country, and some claims only make sense locally, such as "Made in Canada" for Canadian shoppers or a delivery promise that depends on distance. Showing a badge that doesn't apply to the visitor creates disappointment at checkout.

  • Shipping offers: Free shipping only for countries where it's true.
  • Local events: a national holiday sale shown only in that country.
  • Delivery messages: Next-day delivery for domestic visitors only.
  • Exclusions: hide a badge in countries where a product or offer isn't available.

Country targeting is especially useful for stores that sell abroad with different terms per region. Rather than writing long, careful badge text that covers every case, you can show a short, accurate message to each group of visitors.

Shopify Markets vs IP-based badges

Shopify Markets lets you group countries into markets and adjust things like currency, pricing, languages and domains per market. See Shopify Markets in the Help Center. Themes can read the active market or country, but that reflects the market the visit is in, which a shopper can sometimes change with a country selector, and stores with one market report the same country for everyone.

Show On Locations in Nexora Product Labels & Badges works differently: it looks up the visitor's country from their IP address. That means:

  • It works the same whether you have one market or many.
  • You choose countries one by one, not markets.
  • It isn't tied to your Markets settings, so changing markets doesn't change your badges.

Because it's based on IP address, a visitor using a VPN or some corporate networks may be seen as being in another country. If the location lookup doesn't respond, the app uses the country Shopify reports for the visit instead.

Step by step: target a badge by country

  1. Create or open the label

Use + Add Label or + Add Automation Label. Country targeting works for both.

  2. Go to Display condition

Find Show On Locations. The default is Include with All Countries, which shows the label everywhere.

  3. Choose Include or Exclude

Include shows the label only in the selected countries. Exclude shows it everywhere except the selected countries.

  4. Pick the countries

For a specific list, remove All Countries, then type in Search countries and select each country you need.

  5. Activate and save

    Click Activate, then Save.

  6. Test it

Visit your store from the target country, or ask someone there to check. Your own visit shows the badge only if your IP is in an included country.

Include or Exclude?

Use Include when the message applies to a few countries, such as a domestic free-shipping offer. Use Exclude when it applies almost everywhere except a few places, such as a badge you want to hide where a product can't be shipped. Either way, keep the list short and easy to check.

Example: shipping badges for a UK store selling abroad

A UK store offers free delivery at home and a flat rate to Europe. It creates two labels with the same design and different text:

  • Label A: Free UK delivery, Show On Locations Include United Kingdom.
  • Label B: Fast EU shipping, Include France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.
  • Both use In Product Info Area with Info Placement Below price, so shoppers see them next to the price.

Visitors from other countries see neither label. If the store also translates the text into French and German, see translate product badges: language and country are set separately, so a visitor in Ireland browsing your store in French sees Label B in French.

Country targeting and translations are set separately on each label

If the store later changes its offer for Ireland, it only needs to create a third label for Ireland and remove Ireland from Label B. Nothing in the theme or in Shopify Markets has to change.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Remove All Countries when you want a specific list with Include. Otherwise the label still shows to everyone.
  • Use one label per message. Create a separate label for each country group that needs different text.
  • Combine with dates for local events: set Visibility Date to the event and Show On Locations to the country.
  • Don't rely on it for legal restrictions. IP-based targeting is good for marketing messages, but it can't guarantee who sees a badge.
  • Testing from abroad? Your own country decides what you see. Ask a colleague in the target country, or check the label on a non-targeted visit first.

Frequently asked questions

Does Show On Locations use Shopify Markets?

No. It uses the visitor's IP address to find their country, so it works the same with one market or many.

Can I hide a badge in one country only?

Yes. Choose Exclude and select that country. The label shows everywhere else.

What happens if a visitor uses a VPN?

They are treated as being in the VPN's country, because targeting is based on IP address.

Can I target regions or cities?

No. Show On Locations works at country level.

Can automation labels be targeted by country?

Yes. Automation labels have the same Display condition tab with Show On Locations.
