What a good About Us page does
Your About page is where shoppers check that a real, trustworthy business is behind the store. It usually answers four questions: who you are, why you started, what makes your products different, and what you stand for. A wall of text rarely does that well; a mix of images, short paragraphs and proof points does.
- A hero with a one-line mission statement and a strong photo
- Image with text blocks telling your story in two or three short chapters
- Icon boxes or features listing values such as materials, sourcing or guarantees
- Social proof: a testimonial, a counter or a logo cloud of press mentions
- A next step: a featured collection or a newsletter sign-up
Ways to build an About page on Shopify
| Approach | Result | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Basic page in Online Store → Pages | Text and images in the rich text editor, shown in your theme's default page template | Quick, but usually a plain single column |
| Create a page template in the theme editor | A custom template built from your theme's own sections, assigned to the page | Flexible, limited to the sections your theme has. See Templates. |
| Install a ready-made About template | A designed multi-section page created for you | A few minutes, then you swap in your content |
Step by step: install an About page template
- Open Templates
In Section Cloud, open Templates. Pick your industry in the Categories sidebar (for example Fashion, Shoes, Beauty, Food & drink, Electronics or Home & living), or type "about" or "story" in Search your template....
- Preview
Click a card's preview image (marked DEMO) to see the full page. The card also shows its plan (Free or Advanced) and how many sections it contains.
- Install
Click Install, choose a theme in the Install window and click Install. On the Free plan, Advanced templates show Unlock with Advanced instead.
- Open the page
Click View page to see it on your storefront. The new page lives at
/pages/sco-<template-name>. - Edit it
Go to My library → Templates and click Customize. The theme editor opens on the new page.
- Rename it
In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Pages, open the new page and change its title to "About us" or "Our story". Leave the Theme template setting as it is.
- Link to it
Add the page to your header or footer menu in Online Store → Navigation. See Menus and links.
A template creates a new, separate page. It doesn't replace your homepage or any existing About page. If you already have one, update your menu link to point to the new page.
Making the template yours
| Section on the page | What to change |
|---|---|
| Hero | Your own photo, a mobile image, one-sentence mission, button to your best-selling collection |
| Image with text | Founder photo and a short origin story; a second block on how products are made |
| Icon boxes / features | Three to four values or promises, such as materials, shipping or returns |
| Testimonial or counter | Real customer quotes or real figures only |
| Featured collection / newsletter | The collection you want new visitors to see next, or your sign-up offer |
Most templates also start with a ✨Template Styles section that holds the page's shared colors (SCHEME 1 to SCHEME 4), typography, button and shape settings. Change a scheme's colors there to restyle the whole page at once instead of editing every section.
Don't need a section? Hide it with the eye icon or remove it. Need another? Click Add section; any section you've installed is available on this page.
Example: an About page for a small skincare brand
- Hero: close-up of the product range with "Simple skincare, made in small batches".
- Image with text: the founder in the workshop and three sentences on why the brand started.
- Image with text (reversed): how ingredients are chosen.
- Icon boxes: cruelty-free, recyclable packaging, free returns.
- Testimonial: two short customer quotes.
- Newsletter: sign-up with a welcome offer.
Tips and common mistakes
- Install on a duplicate theme first if you want to experiment, then publish that theme.
- Replace every sample image and text. Template content is placeholder content.
- Keep it short. Two or three story blocks are usually enough.
- Reuse sections elsewhere. The template's sections are now installed in your theme, so you can add them to your homepage too.
- Deleting the template in My library removes the page and template; its sections stay in your theme.
Frequently asked questions
Will an About page template replace my homepage?
No. It creates a new page at /pages/sco-<template-name>. Your homepage and existing pages don't change.
Can I change the page title and text?
Yes. Rename the page in Online Store → Pages, and edit all its sections in the theme editor via My library → Templates → Customize.
Are About page templates free?
Some templates are Free and others need the Advanced plan. Use the Free chip in Templates to see the ones available on any plan.
Can I use the template's sections on other pages?
Yes. Installing a template adds every section it uses to your theme and library.
Do I need an Online Store 2.0 theme?
Yes. Page templates are JSON templates, which need an Online Store 2.0 theme.
